This Black History Month, we must both celebrate the accomplishments of the Black community and take responsibility for the systemic racism that all of us have allowed to persist in American society. I am committed to using my platform to uplift marginalized voices and take meaningful action toward change.
I'm calling on all my fellow members of Congress to do more than mouth platitudes this Black History Month. It's time for action. Sign here if you agree! [[link removed]]STOP SYSTEMIC RACISM [[link removed]]
Words simply aren't enough.
We must take action to ensure police officers are always held accountable when they murder a citizen. We can no longer sit silently while Black kids are forced to make do with substandard schools and neighborhoods filled with toxic lead or ignore blatant voter suppression in communities of color.
While I am very grateful that we no longer have a president willing to use racism for political gains, we still have a long way to go.
That’s why I’m doing everything in my power to honor my late colleague by working to restore voting rights and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. It’s why I’m working to make sure that the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act becomes law to start to reverse the systemic discrimination that Black mothers face.
This is why we must finally pass legislation to stop police brutality and bring accountability to those who snatch innocent lives.
Add your name here to join me in demanding that Republicans stop blocking legislation designed to reduce systemic racism! [[link removed]]
Last summer, millions of Americans took to the streets to demand justice. I am committed to using my position as Chair of the House Judiciary Committee to do everything in my power to take action.
Onward,
Jerry
