Friend,
Donald Trump is no longer the U.S. president, but the nation's democracy
is still deep in crisis.
The quadruple threat of climate change, COVID-19, deep economic
inequality, and ecosystem collapse are all still very much upon us.
The pivotal fights of the progressive community have not been won—they
have only just begun.
Three-quarters of GOP voters believe the election was stolen, and nearly
half support the January 6 insurrection that left 5 people dead. If this
says nothing else, it illustrates that American society remains in the
most fractured and dangerous moment it has experienced in nearly 150
years.
It's simply not possible for a democracy to survive when half the
country is living in a fact-free parallel universe.
And here's what else we know: the planet is heating; the pandemic
remains out of control; the richest 1% are still calling the shots while
workers suffer, and the natural systems that make life possible are
teetering on the edge of destruction.
That's why, as we kick off our Winter Fundraising Campaign, the work of
Common Dreams has never been more important—the stakes never higher.
These last four years have been long and dark—but we have leaned on you
to shine the light and show us the way. Our commitment to our mission—to
inform, to inspire, and ignite change for the common good—has never
wavered. And we are not about to quit now.
Before us now are the great battles of our time, and we're counting on
your help to keep up the fight. Will you make a stand with us now as we
cover the most pressing issues and give voice to those working hardest
to heal our democracy, unrig our economy, and restore our planet?
