Extremists Face Arrests, Uncertain Future Following January 6 Insurrection
It’s been more than a month since a horde of extremists forced their way into the U.S. Capitol, protesting the outcome of a national election and intent on disrupting a time-honored democratic process. ADL’s Center on Extremism (COE) has identified 212 of the roughly 800 individuals who are believed to have breached the building on January 6. The emerging snapshot of the insurrectionists shows a
range of right-wing extremists united by their fury with the perceived large-scale betrayal by “unprincipled” Republican legislators.
On February 4th, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt testified before the House Committee on Homeland Security on the rising risk of far-right extremism and domestic extremism, and how our new PROTECT plan can help mitigate this threat.

Despite Remediation Efforts, ADL Finds YouTube Still Amplifies Extremist Content
While YouTube has made efforts to remove extremist content, 9 percent of YouTube users who participated in a national study viewed at least one video from an extremist channel, and 22 percent viewed at least one video from an alternative channel that could serve as a gateway to extremist content, according to a new report
from ADL's Center for Technology and Society.

Attacks on Asian Americans Highlight Rise in Hate Incidents Amid COVID-19
In early March of last year, the pandemic fueled anti-Asian racism. Now, recent spikes in violence show us the consequences of allowing hate to go unchecked. It is critical to speak out against the scapegoating, xenophobia and racism that allowed this hate to manifest.

ADL Report Finds Iranian Textbooks Are Replete with Hatred Against Jews and Americans
A comprehensive study of state textbooks exposes how students in Iran are being taught antisemitism, hatred and incitement to violence against America, Israel and the Jewish people. Released by ADL on the 42nd anniversary of the Iranian revolution, the new study reveals that current editions of the regime’s school textbooks even go so far as to blame Western media for hyping the pandemic to undermine last year’s celebration of the Iranian revolution.

ADL Washington, D.C.'s Regional Signature Synagogue Program is an important way to engage our community and ignite a congregation-wide commitment to raising awareness of and speaking out against antisemitism and hate. This program creates a unifying initiative for community education and engagement. Participants in the Signature Synagogue Program will have special direct access to ADL's programs, resources and learning opportunities. This is an ongoing year-long program where each synagogue will receive recognition of participation and granted a certificate of completion.

HIAS Refugee Shabbat 2021
In March 2021, ADL will be a proud co-sponsor of HIAS’ Refugee Shabbat, during which Jews in the United States and around the world will take action for refugees. Over the Shabbat of March 5-6, 2021, the Jewish community will dedicate sacred time and space to refugees and asylum seekers. Now in its third year with hundreds of congregations and thousands of individuals participating, this Refugee Shabbat will be an opportunity to once again raise awareness in our communities, to recognize the work that has been done and to reaffirm our commitment to welcoming refugees and asylum seekers.
