Hey there,
I’m back in Colorado this week, spending some much-needed time with Robin and Teddy. It’s always nice to come home after a busy week in Washington. I miss the Colorado mountains and the western catalpa trees (their branches can break under heavy snow, so proper pruning is important).
But just because I’m back home doesn’t mean the work stops. I’m running in and out of Zoom meetings, fighting to expand COVID-19 relief, and working on vaccine distribution plans.
I also want to let you know what committee assignments I’ve received as a freshman Senator:
First up is one that’s particularly important to me — the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources . Colorado has some of the most beautiful public lands our country has ever seen, and you can bet I’ll do whatever it takes to protect them.
I’m also looking forward to joining the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions which is playing a critical role as our country continues to struggle through the pandemic. Some of our most pressing issues — from health care to workplace safety to workers rights — fall under this committee.
The Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation oversees our nation’s infrastructure and I can’t wait to help spur much-needed upgrades and improvements to our transit system. As a former geologist, I’m especially excited to serve as Chair of the Subcommittee on Science and Space — you might even say we’re over the moon.
And my personal favorite, the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship . After successfully opening a brewpub in downtown Denver, I know exactly what our small businesses need to grow and thrive in our current world.
Look, I know Senate committees may not receive wall-to-wall coverage on cable news, but they’re the place where key legislation is crafted and approved before heading to the Senate floor.
I’m excited to get to work for our country and start delivering on important issues for Colorado like health care, climate change, and supporting small businesses.
Thanks for being a part of the team. We have a long road ahead and the only way we’ll accomplish our ambitious agenda is if folks like you stay with us.
I’ll keep you updated.
