John,
A $15 minimum wage isn’t just good for working people. It’s good for Social Security!
For a generation, the richest 1% have sucked up more and more wealth, at the expense of working people everywhere. When Republicans point to a shortfall in the Social Security Trust fund, this gaping inequality is what caused it.
Fighting inequality is good for Social Security.
Raising the minimum wage fights inequality.
So raising the minimum wage is good for Social Security.
A $15 minimum wage is currently in the COVID relief bill that the House is voting on next week. But once it passes the House, it will need the support of every single Democrat in the Senate.
The even 50-50 Democratic-Republican split in the U.S. Senate leaves zero room for error. A single Democratic defection will kill our chances of passing a $15 minimum wage―so we need to make sure we can count on every single one.
Call your U.S. Senators now and tell them to support the $15 minimum wage in the COVID relief package, which not only strengthens workers’ wages, but also strengthens Social Security:
Call 1-844-783-0408 and tell them:
My name is John xxxxxx, and I’m a constituent of the Senator’s. Please share with the Senator that I’d like for them to include a $15 minimum wage in the COVID relief bill.
Updating the minimum wage would not only strengthen the national economy, but it would also improve Social Security’s finances, increase retirement security, and reduce government spending on means-tested assistance programs.
Please urge the Senator to work to ensure that a $15 minimum wage is included in the final package voted on in the coming weeks.
Thank you.
The federal minimum wage has been stuck at $7.25 an hour since 2009. And a minimum wage worker, working full time for one year, will only make about $15,000. That’s a poverty wage!
At the wealthiest time in our country’s history, and with so much of our wealth concentrated within the top 1% of U.S. households, millions of working people are being left behind.
Take a moment to call your Senators at 1-844-783-0408 and urge them to support a $15 minimum wage, which is not only good for our economy, but good for Social Security.
Thank you,
