The Unz Review Digest - February 19, 2021
Our most popular featured article this last week was Andrew Anglin’s lengthy analysis of a recent Glenn Greenwald column on the enormous growth of media-driven “cancellations” of all those who are caught making controversial remarks on the Internet, a subject obviously close to Anglin’s own heart given his status as one of the figures to suffer the earliest and most severe form of that censorship, eventually claiming the president of the United States. This quickly provoked some 300 comments totaling 30,000 words.
On a somewhat related theme, longtime committed Democrat Mike Whitney then described the second impeachment of Trump as a total fiasco for the Democrats, explaining the reasons he had shifted his support to Trump after so many years in the opposite ideological camp, drawing over 250 comments, totalling nearly 30,000 words.
Placing third was Pepe Escobar’s analysis of the geopolitics of the Russian relations with Europe, and Russia’s increasing turn to positioning itself as a foremost Eurasian power aligned with China after many years of unremitting Western hostility, attracting nearly 300 comments totaling over 40,000 words.
A very close fourth was Kevin Barrett’s discussion of his recent demonization by the Atlantic Council and the Associated Press as a “conspiracy theorist” regarding the origins of the Covid-19 epidemic, noting how odd it was that those organizations totally excluded the name “Ron Unz” and “The Unz Review” from their attacks, even though he was merely quoting and citing our own analysis, also attracting 300 comments totaling over 40,000 words.
Fifth place was held by Israel Shamir’s own most somewhat related “conspiracy theory” on the sources of the worldwide infection, which he believes was closely connected to the wealthiest and most powerful global elites.
Finally, rounding out our most popular featured articles this week was Guillaume Durocher’s analysis of data on the Muslim presence in France, which has drawn over 450 comments totaling over 60,000 words.
Glenn Greenwald has Written the Defining Article of 2021
He might be a homosexual Jew, but Glenn Greenwald is a legend and a hero, and his recent piece ripping apart the hall monitor censorship beat of the mainstream media is the article of the year. Most importantly, it inspired me to write the funniest article of the year, “Suspicions of Racial Bias Abound After...

The Democrats approached the impeachment with the same cockiness that they approach everything. They thought they'd stomp their feet and run around with their hair on fire, and eventually people would see the righteousness of their cause. But it didn't go down like that. Instead, the Trump defense team opened a can of whoop ass...

Future historians may register it as the day when usually unflappable Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov decided he had had enough: Josep Borrell, the EU foreign policy chief, on an official visit to Moscow, had to take it on the chin. Lavrov, always the perfect gentleman, added, “I hope that the strategic review that will...

The bad news is that two of the most powerful institutions in America have anointed me a “COVID super-spreader.” The good news is that I stand accused of super-spreading “COVID conspiracy theories,” not the actual disease. But the worse news is that the way things are going, “conspiracy spreaders” may soon be quarantined in COVID...

Millionaires want to make money. Billionaires want to make history. We may add that multi-billionaires take it further; they want mankind to adapt to their needs and wishes. As for people who control trillions, why, they care about our wishes as much as we care about ants while sweeping the garden. We do not apply...

In contrast to the situation in the Anglo-American world – where detailed racial data gives a good sense of most groups’ educational and socio-economic performance, criminality, voting patterns, etc. – there is no systematic collection of such data in France. This means that we have to estimate the general situation using proxy data, such as...

At a time when there are concerns that Covid is being over-diagnosed, and its impact exaggerated, it is useful to look at another claim: that traumatic events in childhood have a major effect for the rest of a person’s life. On 18 November 1987 a fire at King’s Cross Underground station in London killed 31...

Rush Limbaugh has died. Up until this morning, he was probably the most influential man alive. Despite his direct influence waning, he is a man who shaped an entire generation of conservative thought, for better and worse. He was an American icon, he was a genius, he was a sellout and a glutton who wasn’t...

Imagine if the Covid vaccine actually contributed to the spread of the infection rather than stopping it. Can you imagine what a catastrophe that would be? Unfortunately, there are signs that that is precisely what is happening in the countries that have implemented the most aggressive vaccination programs. Take Israel, for example. In the last...

A more sovereign Germany closer to Russia and China may be the straw that breaks the US hegemon’s back
Last week we traced the necessary historical and geopolitical steps to understand Why Russia is driving the West crazy. And then, last Friday, right before the start of the Year of the Metal Ox, came the bombshell, delivered with customary aplomb by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. In an interview with popular talk show host...

Biden Doubles Down on Some Bad Policies and Appointments
The prize for the truly awful story of the week goes to the appointment of AIPAC monster to head Pentagon planning for the Middle East. The extension of the nuclear arms agreement between Russia and the United States and the decision to stop directly supporting the war on Yemen may have been the only good...

Introducing the headless chicken The EU has a major problem: it is run by a comprador class which is entirely dependent on the United States. Okay, that by itself is not the problem I am referring to. The problem I am referring to is one we could call the problem of the decapitated chicken: a...

United States will punish ICC
Well, as usual, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has finally received authorization to proceed with the investigation of possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in Israel-Palestine, to include both the Israel Defense Force (IDF) and also Hamas in Gaza....

The older you get, the more likely you are to ramble, or, to put it more delicately, to improvise quite freely, incoherently or repetitively, the more you’ll sound like Sun Ra on acid, in short.
