National Justice for Animals Week

Join the Animal Legal Defense Fund for National Justice for Animals Week [[link removed]] on February 21 to 27, 2021! This week is an annual event dedicated to raising
public awareness around crimes committed against animals. Host a virtual guest speaker, screen a film online, or watch an Animal Law Academy webinar and host a discussion afterwards with your chapter.

Advancement of Animal Law Scholarships

Apply for an Advancement of Animal Law Scholarship [[link removed]] ! Scholarships are available to law student members of our Animal Legal Defense
Fund Student Chapters and are awarded based upon demonstrated commitment to Animal Legal Defense Fund’s mission, “to protect the lives and advance the
interests of animals through the legal system.” Applicants should be committed to the advancement of animal law through active involvement with their student
chapter while in law school and anticipated participation in the field after graduation.

Sustainability vs. Overexploitation: A Nexus Between Illegal Wildlife Trafficking and the Climate Crisis

Join Spring A. Gaines, Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, as she
discusses how national and international policies fail to implement the idea of
sustainability into protecting ecosystems that are continuously overexploited to
their own detriment, while exploring how this oversight impacts species in
different parts of our natural world.

The Bear Necessities: Ursine Suffering Exposed, Explained, and Expelled

Join Morgan Pattan, Michigan State University, as she discusses the psychological impact of captivity on bears. This presentation will detail the
current legal framework that governs the care and keeping of bears in captivity, the insufficiency of this framework, and the harm that it inevitably causes to
these intelligent beings. Additionally, possible changes to the current framework that ensure animal protection is the primary priority will be considered.
