I’m co-sponsoring a measure that would protect our democratic values by combating voter suppression, the corruptive influence of dark money, and outside attempts to influence and interfere in our elections.
Washington Republicans are trying to suppress the will of the American people -- particularly the voices of voters of color -- to advance their own personal political agendas. We can’t let them win. During the last term in Congress, the very first action House Democrats took with our newly won Majority was to put forth this plan to protect voting rights, our elections, and our democracy. Unfortunately, that plan got stuck in the Senate with then-Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
But now with Democratic majorities in both chambers of Congress and President Joe Biden in the White House, we have our best opportunity yet to make these bold election reforms the law of the land.
We need to keep up the public pressure because the threats to our elections and our democracy remain.
