It’s been just over a month since an angry mob stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn our free and fair election, leaving five people dead, including a Capitol Police officer.
At the time, I made a promise to hold every person responsible for that horrific attack on our democracy accountable and to make sure it never happens again.
I’m leading the call in Congress for an independent, bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th attack and the government’s failure to prevent and respond to domestic terrorism and violent extremism in our country.
If you support our efforts to create a January 6th Commission, add your name today.
The events of January 6th were years in the making. The attack was organized openly online. Government and security officials warned of the national threat of domestic terrorism, including specific threats to the 2020 election.
And yet on January 6th, our government was wholly unprepared.
The legislation I introduced this week would establish a new commission modeled after the 9/11 Commission created in response to the terror attacks on the World Trade Center.
As a Navy pilot, federal prosecutor, and Congresswoman for New Jersey’s 11th District, I took oaths to protect and defend our country, and that’s what I intend to do now.
I’m counting on your support -- please add your name today and support our efforts to ensure we understand what happened on January 6 and where we go from here.
Thank you and take care,
Mikie
