Dear John ,
What a September! The past month has been an exciting one for us — from joining Maine's new Climate Council working groups to supporting the Climate Strikes across the state — our staff, and conservation voters like you, have been busy! We wanted to give you a quick update on all of the activities that you are helping to make possible.
Maine's New Climate Council
Gov. Janet Mills recently announced members of Maine's new Climate Council which convened for its inaugural meeting on Thursday. We are pleased to share that three of our staff members will serve on the Council’s working groups:
* Kathleen Meil, Director of Policy & Partnership, will co-chair the Buildings, Infrastructure, and Housing Working Group, earning her a place on the Council’s Steering Committee.
* Maureen Drouin, Executive Director, will participate on the Natural and Working Lands Working Group.
* Beth Ahearn, Director of Government Affairs, will participate on the Energy Working Group.
Kathleen, Maureen, and Beth are dedicated to helping Gov. Mills and the Climate Council reduce carbon pollution, build our clean energy economy, and ensure resilient communities. We'll keep you updated on the progress of the Council and how you can help us shape climate policy in Maine. Just Released: 2019 Legislative Scorecard
O n the heels of the Climate Strikes here in Maine and across the planet, and Gov. Janet Mills’ call-to-action climate speech at the United Nations this week, MCV released our legislative scorecard for 2019.
For eight long years, the demands of conservation voters in Maine went mostly unheard as the previous administration and many of its enablers at the State House blocked necessary environmental legislation, attempted to roll back important protections for our air, land and water, and ignored the climate crisis already affecting our state.
But this year — the first year of the 129th legislative session — was different, and it was momentous. Together with Gov. Mills, the Maine Legislature made groundbreaking progress to tackle climate change and transition Maine to 100% clean energy by 2050. Our lawmakers made tremendous progress on protecting our environment and reducing pollution, too

MCV at the Common Ground Fair
[link removed] [[link removed]]Tens of thousands descended upon Unity for MOFGA’s 43rd annual Common Ground Fair. Fairgoers enjoyed near-perfect weather along with all the food and activities found every year at this great 3-day event. MCV set up in the Environmental Concerns Tent and had the pleasure of speaking with folks who wanted to learn more about our organization, our legislative scorecard and our recent campaigns. Fairgoers were excited to sign our petition in support of the Land for Maine’s Future bond, which is our priority for lawmakers when they return in January.

T opics of the event included solar array installation logistics, heat pumps, and electrical vehicles (EVs), including state distributed rebates for EVs, which are available now through the Efficiency Maine Trust [[link removed]] .
MCV announces new staff
We are excited to announce two new team members who will be working diligently to further our reach and impact statewide. Welcome Will and Greta! Here’s a little bit more about them:
Will Sedlack, Civic Engagement Manager
[[link removed]] While born away, Will Sedlack got to Maine as fast as he could. Will started coming to Maine as a child when his mother and father drove the family up to Southwest Harbor from Carlisle, PA every summer. Will and his new wife Maye live in Portland where they enjoy gardening, fishing, boating, and exploring all that Maine has to offer. Will is a 2010 graduate of the University of Vermont, a 2016 graduate of the Muskie School of Public Service, and a 2019 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law. In a prior life, Will was a teacher at Gorham High School. He is looking forward to building relationships and coalitions to help ensure a bright carbon-free future for Maine.
Greta Warren, Membership & Digital Manager
[[link removed]] Originally from Damariscotta, Greta and her husband moved to Harpswell from New York City in 2017 to raise their family in a close-knit community, surrounded by the great outdoors. Greta’s career has taken her through the cultural non-profit sector, the advertising and creative technology arena, and back home to MCV, where she works within the Development & Communications department to cultivate lasting relationships with our existing members, and expand our base to new audiences across the state. She’s passionate about climate action, community engagement, hiking and cats.
