** Sustainable development games
------------------------------------------------------------

Our STEAM in Youth Work programme, in partnership with the NYCI Youth 2030 Global Youth Work and Development Education programme, Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT), and Trócaire, has developed a online CPD training programme that will enable youth workers to use games to strengthen their practice while focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals and development education issues of concern to the young people they work with. ** What is Climate Justice all about?

To find out, check out the latest animations ([link removed]) from our Future Generations – Climate Justice Project a partnership between the NYCI, Involve, Macra na Feirme, Sphere17 Regional Youth Facility, Swan Youth Service and YMCA Ireland. It is funded by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth and Irish Aid.



** Filmmaking with young people in youth work settings

This workshop combines a range of skills required to deliver a filmmaking programme such as devising a script, choosing your shots, and facilitating a film shoot with young people, all while maintaining a youth work-centred approach. Film editing when working with young people

This tailored online film editing training is designed for anyone working with young people. It provides the basic practical and creative skills to deliver a programme while maintaining a youth work-centred approach. ** New research: Mapping youth arts provision in youth work settings
------------------------------------------------------------

NYCI commissioned University College Cork to carry out this independent mapping of youth arts provision in youth work. This research report demonstrates the important benefits and impact of engagement in youth arts for young people. The analysis also highlights the many challenges that the sector faces and the changes that need to happen to advance meaningful and sustainable youth arts provision in Ireland. ** Covid-19: guidance for youth services

We continue to work with officials in the department to revise the guidance in response to any new restrictions and will continue to update the Guidance for Youth Organisations on Resuming Full Services ([link removed]) . ** SpunOut.ie is recruiting young people for its Action Panels
------------------------------------------------------------

Action Panels are where young people meet and decide new content ideas for SpunOut.ie, ensuring that the information the organisation shares is based on what young people across the country want to know about. Panels are based in Dublin, Waterford, Cork, and Galway, with three annual meetings currently taking place remotely. There are specific panels for young Travellers, as well as for young people from BAME communities. ** Girl Guides earning badges online
------------------------------------------------------------

Members of Irish Girl Guides are now earning their badges online. The 70 places on a recent online session for Guides to earn their Science Investigator badge booked out in 10 minutes! To earn the badge, Guides conduct weather-related experiments and carry out crime scene investigations as well as learn about famous female scientists. Guides are looking forward to earning many more badges online.

** Young volunteers spread the love to 1,000 ICU staff
------------------------------------------------------------

On Friday, February 12, Localise Youth Volunteering delivered 1,000 Valentine's Day postcards to staff working in hospital ICUs across Dublin. Localise Youth Volunteering is a national organisation that awakens the culture of volunteerism amongst young people. This Valentine's Day project is the first of many virtual volunteer programmes this year.

Girls' Brigade Keep Well campaign

The volunteer leaders with The Girls’ Brigade Ireland have adapted amazingly to delivering programmes online. They have been focusing on the national Keep Well campaign as a way to bring structure to online classes, and have published a blog with ideas and useful links to help any youth group include these activities in their programmes. Explore Youth Theatre launches Keeping Sketch
------------------------------------------------------------

Leixlip-based Explore Youth Theatre is proud to present Keeping Sketch, a project funded by NYCI under the Artist in Residency grant scheme, online on February 26 at 7pm. Keeping Sketch is a project with original material devised, written, created, and produced by young people in a digital format. Conceived and facilitated by artist Alan King, the project spanned a six-month period and was filmed largely on location in Leixlip. The Power of Youth

Youth Work Ireland's Irish Youth Music Awards (IYMAs) has released a passionate spoken word piece that premiered on RTÉ 2FM. This video was produced remotely throughout lockdown and features young musicians from across the island of Ireland. Watch the video >> ([link removed])

Certificate in Nature Animation
------------------------------------------------------------

The Certificate in Nature Animation has been developed in response to demand from the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), with the aim to increase the number of park rangers for national parks, nature reserves, and wildfowl sanctuaries throughout Ireland. Course coordinators are particularly keen to hear from applicants from disadvantaged areas, and a number of places have been set aside for suitable candidates. Ireland Reads is a new campaign from Irish libraries, booksellers, publishers, and others aiming to get the whole country reading this month in the lead up to a national day of reading on Thursday, February 25. IWC/Cúirt Young Writer Delegate Programme
------------------------------------------------------------

The Cúirt International Festival of Literature is set to take place this year from April 21-25. As part of this year’s event, young writer delegates are being sought to be involved in the festival. Young writers from backgrounds typically underrepresented in Irish literature, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Traveller, and working class writers, are particularly encouraged to apply. ** Just Us: Telling Our Stories
------------------------------------------------------------

This is a project for young adults aged 18-25 who come from both migrant and non-migrant backgrounds. It will comprise of an eight-week online workshop series that explores personal storytelling through poetry, drama, and playback theatre, culminating in an online performance. This project is free to participants, thanks to funding from the Communities Integration Fund and Irish Aid. Register here >> ([link removed])

Submit your short film: First Cut! Youth Film Festival
------------------------------------------------------------

First Cut! is accepting submissions from young filmmakers aged 12-24. This opportunity is open to individual filmmakers, secondary schools, colleges, and youth groups. Every type of film is welcome, including fiction, documentary, animation, and music video. The deadline for entries is 5pm on March 5, and the festival will run from April 17 - May 9. Relaunch of the Supporting Children campaign

Supporting Children is a campaign developed by DCEDIY to support vulnerable children, young people, and their families in challenging times. It was first launched in June last year to highlight the range of services and supports in place as well as the innovative responses this sector was making to meet the needs of vulnerable groups across a range of service areas. ** Support for grieving: free resource pack

The Irish Hospice Foundation has launched a free bereavement resource pack: Support for Grieving in Exceptional Times. It includes bereavement resources for adults as well as for young people and children and is free to download at this link >> ([link removed])


** Impact of Covid-19 on adolescents (NUIG/TCD research)
------------------------------------------------------------

Take part in a new study: How adolescents deal with and adjust to pandemic restrictions. In order to understand how the Covid-19 pandemic and the various restrictions that are in place are impacting on the lives of teenagers, a team of researchers from the School of Psychology at NUI Galway and from Trinity College Dublin are carrying out this research. This survey is for teenagers (12-18 years). Please note all teenagers require the consent of a parent or guardian to take part. Watch their video >> ([link removed])
