Friend — we reached out earlier this month with details on a major effort by the oil and gas industry to restart leasing on public lands. One of Biden's first orders as president was to halt these deals to allow a top-to-bottom review of our broken leasing system that gives Big Oil all the influence on our public lands.
We're worried that the oil and gas industry's campaign is working. Well-funded PR efforts are hitting lawmakers in vulnerable seats. Lawsuits threaten to restart drilling operations. Oil industry allies in the Senate forced late-night votes on the COVID-19 relief package attacking Biden's executive order.
We need your help. They haven't won yet — but unless the environmental movement raises hell right now, we're going to lose.
The truth is, going toe-to-toe with Big Oil is what we do here at LCV. We win campaigns against them even when we're wildly outspent. The problem is that after months of must-win fights against the Trump administration, our resources are tight.
We're hoping to raise $50,000 by the end of the month to keep our work going. A group of donors has agreed to triple match every contribution. Can we count on your support?
Donate today and your contribution will be triple matched. We can't give up — not when we have a real shot at shutting down these drilling operations. Even $5 is enough to make a difference right now »
Friend — the halt on drilling is a HUGE deal. Fossil fuel extraction on public lands generates A QUARTER of America's greenhouse gas emissions alone. It's not just a question of land protection, but of creating a better climate for our children, and leading us toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy infrastructure for generations.
Here's the problem: The executive order halting leasing is temporary. In the meantime, if the oil industry spends the next year pouring resources into PR and lobbying efforts — they're going to plant a false narrative that this hurts job growth.
It's total BS, because we can create millions of high-paying jobs in clean energy and cleaning up pollution from the oil and gas industry that continues to harm communities. But if people believe the lies, we're going to end up back to business as usual.
It's up to us to show the American people the truth. And to pull that off — we really need you on board, friend.
Please, pitch in today. Triple your impact. Your contribution could be the difference in whether or not we can stay in this fight »
We can win this fight — but it's only going to happen if the environmental movement shows up during the moments that matter. This is one of those moments. Thanks for your support.
