Dear Defender,

The Trump administration tried to abandon millions of migratory birds to die at
the hands of reckless companies – but now, we have a chance to reverse course and save these birds!

A proposal that would have effectively gutted the Migratory Bird Treaty Act
(MBTA) by letting companies off the hook for easily preventable bird killings
has been delayed thanks to a review announced by the Biden administration. The
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is now accepting public comments on the
proposal.

This is huge: We have an opportunity to stop this damaging rollback. We only have a few days to act – sign below to urge the FWS to reject this
proposal that would harm and kill countless birds!

Act Now: Tell the FWS to restore protections to more than 1,000 species of
migratory birds!

Bird lovers have been up in arms about this deadly proposal to hamstring the
MBTA. For decades, this critical wildlife law has protected birds by holding
these companies accountable for the bird deaths they cause. When the BP
Deepwater Horizon disaster killed over a million birds, the $100 million they
paid in fines helped restore wetlands and support migratory bird conservation.

This cruel rollback would betray the purpose of this law by only applying the
MBTA to cases where companies kill birds on purpose . That means those companies can cause millions of birds to die in uncovered oil waste pits,
oil spills, power lines and other industrial dangers – without any legal obligation to prevent those deaths.

The damage would be catastrophic – that’s why it’s so important that we act now
to restore those protections!

RESTORE MIGRATORY BIRD PROTECTIONS
[[link removed]]Defender , a recent study found that birds are disappearing from North America at a
staggering rate. The MBTA is critical to helping these populations recover. The
lives of millions of birds are at stake.

This comment period is closing soon - please take a moment to add your voice
today. Let the FWS know you oppose stripping protections from vulnerable migratory
birds!

Protect millions of birds from dying preventable deaths. Urge the FWS to restore
the MBTA by submitting your comment right now!
