COVID-19 vaccine roll-out in McPherson

As part of the Australian Government’s COVID-19 Vaccination Program, people in priority groups who are most at risk and who need protection the most – will receive a vaccine first.

From Monday, some of our most essential workers and vulnerable residents in the McPherson electorate will be vaccinated, with more of our community to follow in the coming weeks and months.

The rollout will begin with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, and following the approval by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) on Tuesday, will include the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine from early March.

Frontline healthcare workers and quarantine and border workers will receive the vaccine through Pfizer hubs run by states and territories - including the Gold Coast University Hospital.

In addition, a Commonwealth led in-reach vaccination workforce will ensure residential aged care and disability care residents and staff receive their vaccines. The site locations within McPherson will include: Burleigh Heads, Mudgeeraba, Robina and Varsity Lakes.

The vaccination program will save and protect lives. Both of our vaccines will prevent serious illness, which is our primary goal.

Vaccines will be available across additional settings including GP clinic and community pharmacy. The staged rollout of COVID-19 vaccines is guided by Australia’s COVID-19 Vaccine National Rollout Strategy.

The COVID-19 vaccine will be voluntary, universal and free. The Government aims to have as many Australians as possible choose to be vaccinated for COVID-19.

If people choose not to have a COVID-19 vaccine, this will not affect their family’s eligibility for Family Tax Benefit Part A or childcare fee assistance which only includes National Immunisation Program vaccines for those aged younger than 20.

The Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) will be the record for all vaccinations for Australians and that record will form the basis of the vaccination certificate that all Australians will be able to use, including visa holders.
