Friend, I wanted to highlight some wonderful news from last week:
The Biden administration announced that, for the first time ever, LGBTQ people will be protected from discrimination under the Fair Housing Act.
This is a major step forward for equality -- access to housing is essential to defend the lives and dignity of all in the LGBTQ community. And it comes after the Trump administration attacked the right to equal housing when they tried to let public shelters turn away transgender people.
I worked hard to raise awareness of the Trump administration's bigoted policy and hold then-HUD Secretary Ben Carson accountable. I'm greatly relieved that we're no longer facing the threat of such a policy, and that we now have a Department of Housing and Urban Development that's proactively protecting equal access to fair housing.
We have a lot of work left to do for equality -- in housing, in employment, and in health care -- but I have hope that we can soon pass landmark legislation and make a lasting change in the lives of so many.
Will you help us keep up the fight for justice and equal rights? If you can, please donate a few dollars to stand me with me as I continue to champion LGBTQ equality.
