Waves across The Maldives are being threatened and destroyed by rapid coastal development and infrastructure. Our local partners estimate there are approximately 20 world-class waves that are threatened, damaged or already lost.

The new Surfonomics Study examined the benefit of surf tourism in Lobitos, Peru. The research concludes that the preservation of a world-class wave ultimately provides significant economic contributions to the local economy.
This report was carried out by the local nonprofit organization Ecoswell, and was written and analyzed together with the Federal University of Santa Catarina Surf and Sustainability Research group (SandS).

After a temporary pause due to COVID-19, Save The Waves will begin accepting submissions for our World Surfing Reserves program. The application window will officially open on March. Among the entries, Save The Waves and our Vision Council will select and nominate the next WSR.
