We need to talk about Texas. After a historic winter storm brought heavy snow and single-digit temperatures, the state's independent power grid succumbed to the frigid conditions. As of this morning, we're told that 500,000 homes and businesses are going on their 3rd and 4th days without power. Millions are not able to get their basic human needs met.
To no surprise, “leaders” in Texas like Gov. Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz are doing
nothing.
As a matter of fact --
just last night, Sen. Ted Cruz and his family flew to Mexico to stay in a resort while the rest of Texas is in crisis.
Talk about #FledCruz...
John, unhoused people are literally freezing to death on the streets. Houston is facing a clean water crisis. Counties are seeing a rise in carbon monoxide poisoning cases, as people are desperate for alternative heating -- of course, because Texas “leaders” aren't helping their own constituents.
They aren't even trying.
... Unless “trying” to help and being a leader means flying out of state to a fancy resort while folks are left without heat, water, gas, and means of transportation. There's no excuse Sen. Cruz could make to justify his actions.

It's utterly disturbing that a senator has the nerve to up and leave for a fancy resort amidst a crisis in the state he is supposed to be serving and representing.
But it wasn't a surprise to Black folks, was it, John?
Sen. Ted Cruz -- a fellow insurrectionist, white supremacist, and loyal Trumper -- showed us in January of this year that he is not a leader.
That all he is is a self-absorbed white supremacist who will do anything for Trump but nothing for his own constituents.
It's now February 2021, barely a month after the attempted coup that
he incited, and Sen. Ted Cruz continues to be a disgrace of an elected official.
Send Sen. Ted Cruz a message: We won't wait around to see what he's got in store for March. Sign the petition and demand his resignation immediately.
John, electoral reformation plays a huge role in our fight for Black liberation. Ensuring a white supremacist like Sen. Ted Cruz is stripped of his Senate position would be a major advancement in this fight, especially for our communities in Texas.
Let's get him out.
