There’s a lot of shady money in politics, folks. No question about it.

Under current legislation, mega-donors can spend millions of dollars bankrolling political ads and candidates — and then sell us half truths about who they are and why they are doing it.

Well, I’ve had enough of shadowy players pulling the strings and calling the shots in Washington while the rest of us get left in the dust. And you know what? We can do something about it.

That’s why I am sponsoring the Spotlight Act, which would require non-profit groups who fund political ads and candidates to disclose exactly who foots the bill — allowing us to hold our election officials accountable and restore much-needed transparency to our elections.

Look, I’ve spent my career trying to get dark money out of our politics — that doesn’t make me too popular around here. But I know that this grassroots team is stronger than all the shady donors combined, so I’m turning to you:

Will you sign your name and become a citizen co-sponsor of the Spotlight Act? Let’s get our government back to working for the people, not the highest bidder.

Thanks for signing on today. Together, we can get dark money out of politics for good.
