Hi Friend,
There is a dirty buildings problem in NYC - 70% of our City’s emissions come from buildings - and it is threatening our air and water, especially for Black and brown frontline communities.
We had to do something about it. Through the work of our Climate Works for All coalition, we fought and won the passage of the Climate Mobilization Act (Local Law 97) in 2019, the most aggressive city emissions policy in the country.
Local Law 97 is a strong path forward to cleaning our dirty buildings, and reaching the City’s 80x50 goals of reducing 80% of emissions by 2050. The law has the potential to create over 140,000 jobs for construction, design, and other industries. But now our work is threatened by real estate interests through Governor Cuomo's budget proposal. We need you to stand up to corporate interests and save LL97.
Included in the Governor's budget proposal is Part R of the TED bill, a provision that would open the floodgates to six million Renewable Energy Credits, representing twice the greenhouse gas emissions over the Local Law 97 limits for 2024 to 2029. In other words, Part R could allow building owners a loophole to avoid compliance to the law and would undermine the objective of Local Law 97 to reduce building emissions and protect frontline communities.
This all means fewer green union jobs, more harm to environmental justice communities, and would stymie our ability to reduce city emissions as quickly and aggressively as possible.

Now is the time for bold climate action, not giveaways to building owners at the expense of our communities, our jobs, and our climate. #StopPartR and make a call with us today.
