This is Katie — filling in for LyLy who is out today. I've been finding joy and grounding in LyLy's emails all year, since before I began as TakeAction's Movement Building Director this fall. Her shoes are hard to fill!

This is our Week of Care in Action. On Tuesday, I kicked off our textbank series for COVID-19 relief — connecting with Minnesotans across the state to make sure our elected officials deliver on the relief we need and deserve. When I asked people if they agree that our communities need more significant relief, so many people had many exclamation marks after their answer: YES!!!!!!

YES. Our communities desperately need and deserve more COVID relief. Send a message to your elected officals calling on them to deliver that relief, now.

When I imagine policy and communities that put care at the center, there’s so much that we are saying YES to: YES, we deserve to be able to care for our loved ones without losing our jobs. YES, we deserve affordable health care. YES, we deserve the support to weather a global pandemic together — and not just survive, but live.

It doesn't always feel easy to focus on what we are saying YES to — I'm someone who entered the movement saying no. No to the corporations that wanted to recklessly develop my hometown in rural Northern Michigan. No to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. No to sexual assault and to violence with no accountability (which we recently wrote about).

When LyLy shares that "connection is medicine" I think about this tension between no and yes, between the pain and struggle of "the world as it is" and the hope and fight for "the world as it should be.” It's our connection to each other that helps us navigate that tension powerfully together and win the things we need.

Join us today in telling our elected officials that YES, our communities need comprehensive COVID-19 relief, and we need it now.
