I've been fighting for recurring survival checks since the beginning of this pandemic.
Here’s why:
🍼 diapers and formula can cost more than $200/month
🍝 feeding a family of 4 costs more than $700/month
🏡 average monthly rent is $1,468/month
They're called survival checks for a reason. People need this money to live. So many are suffering right now — and Congress must help.
I led efforts to ensure that the House’s COVID relief package was as strong as it could be, and I fought for it to include a $15 minimum wage. When some lawmakers tried to weaken the benefits in the package by taking survival checks away from 40 million people who received them last time, I prevented these cuts with the help of my progressive colleagues.
As Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, I’m ready to continue leading on policies that will put money in people’s pockets and lift families up. Passing a robust COVID relief bill is one key part of that work as we transform this country.
In solidarity,
Pramila
