Now that Trump has been acquitted by 43 Republican Senators, we must take the next step to hold him and his enablers accountable for their abuses of power and subversion of our democracy.

Seeking accountability is not just about Trump facing consequences for his misdeeds. It’s about our democracy, our Constitution, and who we are as a country.

Is our country for ALL of its residents, including communities under attack by white supremacy and Trumpism? Or is it just for white people and the powerful wealthy few? By rallying around Trump and furthering his voter fraud lies to suppress our voting rights, Republicans have made clear where they stand.

We must send a message to future presidents and people inspired by Trump: If you try to attack our democracy and our neighbors, we will hold you to account.

Please sign the petition to Attorney General-designate Merrick Garland: Trump and his criminal network of associates must be investigated and prosecuted for lawbreaking. Nobody is above the law, including presidents. There must be accountability.

We know we have deeper work to do to dismantle white supremacy, which existed long before Trump and is continuing after his reign of office. Until we reckon with the white supremacy that got Trump into office in the first place, our communities will continue to be under attack.

Holding Trump and his criminal network of associates accountable is an important piece of that work.

And it’s part of the deeper battle for what we value, and what we allow, as a country.

We’re at a crossroads, and we get to choose: Will our country descend further into white supremacist authoritarianism? Or can we finally deliver the promise of justice and democracy for every person who calls the United States home?

What we do now matters. We’ve got to get it right.
