The latest momentum in the fight to end child poverty is new--but the Children's Defense Fund's role as a leader in that fight is decades in the making.
For nearly 50 years, we've been fighting at every level to better the lives of the millions of children who live in poverty in the wealthiest nation on Earth. We advocate for policy changes that would lift millions out of poverty, provide resources and services to struggling families, and call attention to a problem that is too often overlooked and ignored.

Just over a year ago, ABC News' George Stephanopoulos asked the first question about child poverty in a presidential debate in 20 years, thanks to a campaign led by CDF Beat the Odds® honoree Israel Glenn and supported by more than 80,000 child defenders like you. At that debate, then-presidential candidate Joe Biden went on the record about the importance of ending child poverty. Fast-forward to today: now-President Biden is citing our work to make the case for a COVID relief package that would lead to the largest reduction in child poverty in decades.
