Let’s be clear: President Biden has the power to cancel $50,000 in student debt for every borrower through executive action. Today.
By doing so, President Biden could relieve the burden of debt from millions of students and families across the country. Given the crises we face, we need big, bold solutions that fully address the deep, intersectional inequities in our society — and student debt cancellation is a critical step in that direction.
The student debt crisis is an issue of both racial and economic justice. Communities — particularly Black communities and communities of color — continue to deal with the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, impacts that are only worsened by the crushing and disproportionate burden of student loan debt.
The American people are on our side. The movement is on our side. Justice is on our side.
