It’s true: After letting ex-president Donald Trump off the hook in his second impeachment trial last Saturday, McConnell and the GOP are now setting their sights on taking back the Senate in 2022.

Right now, Democrats have a fragile majority in the Senate, split 50-50 right down the middle and Vice President Kamala Harris serving as the tie-breaker.

It’s already hard enough making progress on the most pressing issues we face because of Republicans’ ability to filibuster, but if they successfully win back the Senate next year, we’ll have to deal with Mitch McConnell’s legislative graveyard all over again. If the GOP control the Senate, it will be nearly impossible to advance President Biden’s and Democrats’ agenda for the people.
