Hi there -- we wanted to keep you in the loop about one of our most important goals: supporting AAPI candidates and making our government represent the people it serves from top to bottom.
The Pew Research Center is out with its latest report on racial and ethnic diversity in Congress, and the progress is encouraging:
We're proud to have played a role in electing a record-setting Congress by seating 124 lawmakers of color.
But the real message of this report? A taste of progress gives you a sense of what the real thing looks like -- and how possible it is for us to get there.
Pew also notes that white Americans -- 60 percent of the U.S. population -- are over-represented with 77 percent of seats in Congress and 89 percent of the Senate alone.
And while we elected a record number of Asian American and Pacific Islander lawmakers, they still only make up 3 percent of both chambers -- way under the 6 percent of Americans who are AAPI.
Here's our stance, for the record: With this Congress, we won't accept anything less, and we're aiming for a whole lot more.
2022 is approaching fast, and we'd like for it to be our most ambitious cycle yet. We're ready to jump in -- but we absolutely need your support to aim for the heights we know we can. And the GOP is working every day to wipe out our gains while we're at it.
