Dear John, President Biden has been in office for almost a month and yet we’ve seen no tangible improvement in U.S. relations with Cuba. On Day 1, he should have reversed Trump’s disastrous “maximum pressure” campaign against our neighbors, the Cuban people. One executive order could have ended the limit on remittances, the restrictions on travel, and the dozens of other illegal sanctions imposed on Cuba over the past four years. We’re not alone in noticing his inaction: Congress is about to send a letter to President Biden urging him to “reverse the Trump Administration’s cruel policies against the Cuban people and renew mutually productive dialogue with the Cuban government.” The above link will let you send an email to your representative, but if you have a few minutes free, a call to their offices will go a long way. Tell the staffer who answers that you wish to speak to the foreign policy aide, and then urge them to get their boss to sign on to the Rush/Cohen letter on Cuba. Their office numbers will show up on your screen right after you send the email. Here’s what to do if you call:
Don’t have time to make a call? That’s okay, but it only takes a minute to click here and ask your representative to sign on to the letter! There are 26 signers so far — if your Representative already signed, the link will let you send them a thank you note. There’s even better news in the Senate, where Sen. Wyden introduced a bill to end the Cuba embargo! We’ll have an action related to supporting that effort soon. Treating Cuba like a good neighbor feels closer than ever. In radical
solidarity, P.S. Did you know if you give a total of $250 a year or 5 volunteer hours a month to CODEPINK, you qualify to become a Peacemaker? Peacemakers get Hot Pink Access to special events like this Saturday's Peacemakers Salon with Carlos Ron, where he will discuss the outlook for Venezuela-U.S. relations under Biden. Please, RSVP to join us!
