John,
Animals being sold on Craigslist are suffering and dying, and we need your help now to save lives. Craigslist “technically” bans the sale of animals on its platform, but sales continue due to dangerous loopholes that allow animals to be “rehomed with a small fee.”
Unscrupulous dealers and puppy and kitten-mill operators — who claim animals are being rescued or rehomed — are advertising and selling animals on Craigslist to unsuspecting families for exorbitant “adoption fees” or shipping charges. The result is often deadly. People who responded to Craigslist ads thought they were adopting healthy puppies, cats, and rabbits — only to have their new animal companions get sick and die because dealers lied about the conditions of the animals and where they came from. |

One woman thought she was acquiring a “miniature” dog breed after responding to a Craigslist ad. When the dog began having bloody diarrhea, the woman immediately took him to the veterinarian, where she found out the reason her new dog was so small: he was only 4 to 5 weeks old. The puppy died the next day.
Many types of animals have become victims due to Craigslist’s weak policies and lax enforcement. We received a report about horses being given away on Craigslist who end up in the hands of kill buyers. Kill buyers purchase horses for the purpose of selling them to other countries to be slaughtered for human consumption.
This must stop. You can help put an end to this suffering and exploitation with your contribution now, and it has never been more urgent that we act. Online sales by kitten- and puppy-mills have skyrocketed during the pandemic — and so has the fraud and animal suffering associated with these operations.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund is urging Craigslist to protect animals and its users by banning all posts related to the transfer of animals. Craigslist must take responsibility and close the loopholes that allow for animal trades and sales on its platform. Your gift now will help ensure we succeed. So please give today and accept my deepest thanks for your support to protect innocent animals. |
For the animals,
