The Biden administration is asking most remaining Trump-appointed U.S. attorneys to step down from their positions.
A Justice Department official said that the only Trump appointees who'll be allowed to continue their work are two prosecutors continuing investigations into Hunter Biden and the FBI investigation into Trump's 2016 campaign.
“While President Biden always was expected to install his own U.S. attorneys at federal prosecutor's offices across the country,” WaPo reports, “the move is an indication that he intends to purge those whose politics might be more aligned with Trump's sooner rather than later.”
The good news is that Biden is serious about ousting as many of Trump's cronies from power as he possibly can -- but the bad news is that some removals won't be so easy.
Specifically? Removing Republican lawmakers who still voted against the certification of Biden's victory in the aftermath of the insurrection -- many of whom are up for re-election in 2022.
