Archaeologists discover ancient beer factory in Egypt
Archaeologists discovered a massive 5,000-year-old brewery in the ancient Egyptian city of Abydos. It likely dates back to around 3100 BC, during the reign of King Narmer -- officially making it the oldest brewery found at the archaeology site. According to Dr. Matthew Adams of New York University, one of the leaders of the Egyptian-American mission that made the discovery, the brewery could have been producing as much as 5,900 gallons of beer at a time. Much of it was likely used in royal burial rituals for some of Egypt's earliest kings.
Florida wine retailer loses challenge to Missouri liquor licensing rules
The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a Florida wine distributor's challenge to Missouri's liquor license residency laws. State law in Missouri states that anyone seeking a liquor license must be a qualified voter and taxpaying citizen of the state. The decision affirms Missouri liquor law as well as the three-tier system.
Two companies busted for illegally shipping liquor to Michigan residents
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel sued two companies for violating the 21st Amendment Enforcement Act and Michigan's Consumer Protection Act for shipping liquor to Michigan residents from out of state. The two companies, Vintner's Collective LLC and Go to Gifts Inc., now face permanent injunctions and hefty fines. The lawsuit was settled this week, and Nessel said, "All we ask of those entities shipping alcohol into Michigan is to follow our laws."
