The COVID pandemic has been part of all of our lives for nearly a year. One thing that has been made clear is that care -- predominantly done by women of color and immigrants -- remains an essential force powering our economy and is vital to ensuring our loved ones are able to live at home safely and with dignity. Women, especially women of color, now face record job losses. 865,000 women stepped out of the workforce in September alone, primarily due to caregiving needs for their families. That's why we must make care jobs good jobs with family-sustaining wages, benefits, training, and a pathway to citizenship to create a just job recovery plan for all of us.

Take action TODAY by writing a letter urging President Biden and Congress to support the Care Is Essential campaign. It takes less than two minutes to send a letter, but your action sets the priority on how we transform our economy to work for everyone.

Care work makes all other work possible. Not only will investment into a care infrastructure provide new job opportunities, but it will also allow women who are often tasked to take care of their families to return to the workforce.

Imagine if all the current care jobs were good jobs with family-sustaining wages, basic benefits, and safety and security for immigrants. The Care is Essential campaign calls for $450 billion to invest in Medicaid to create 1.5 million new care jobs, to increase critical home care services to people with disabilities and aging adults so they can live with dignity at home, and to build a durable home care system for workers and consumers.

This critical investment would finally acknowledge the central role women -- especially Black, Latina and Asian women -- play in our communities including undocumented essential care workers who have powered our economy in times of crisis and stability. Greater investment in the professional development of underpaid and underemployed Black, Latina, and Asian immigrant care workers will lead to job gains for everyone and provide the highest standards of care. An inclusive and equitable national recovery plan must also include safety and security for the millions of immigrant frontline workers who are performing essential jobs to keep our country running. Contact President Biden and Congress today and urge them to support bringing more jobs to our economy by ensuring a pathway to citizenship for domestic workers and other essential workers and their families is a part of any job recovery plans.
