The US House Financial Services Committee approved its section of the federal coronavirus relief bill on February 11. The HFSC package, totaling $75 billion, contains funding for housing and homelessness programs, including $25 billion in emergency rental and other housing assistance and $5 billion to assist people who are homeless with immediate and longer-term needs, passed out of the committee by a vote of 29-24. With this approval, the committees will now send their sections of the relief package to the House Budget Committee, where they will be combined into The Biden Administration's $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill. The full House of Representatives is set to vote on the bill by February 26th.

This bill provides essential relief for low income renters and others who are disproportionately suffering from the pandemic, helping to ensure that millions can stay or become housed. Stay tuned for more on our federal efforts as well as future advocacy opportunities. Also, members who want to stay in the know on all our legislative work and help shape NPH policy priorities should join our Legislative Issues Working Group today.

Upcoming Bills on the Horizon

The Bring CA Home campaign, of which NPH is a strong endorser, seeks to reverse the cycle of homelessness in our state by supporting a transformational approach with investment at scale, bold solutions, and continued funding. Assembly Bill 71, supported by Bring CA Home and championed by Assemblywoman Luz Rivas, would create an ongoing, permanent source of revenue to address homelessness in California. AB71 could help tens of thousands of people on the brink of homelessness stay in their homes, and access both safe shelter and the critical services they need to find a permanent, stable place to call home.

The bill introduction deadline is this Friday, February 19. Stay tuned for announcements about exciting bills NPH will be putting forward this session.

In an effort to address longstanding salary inequities based on gender and race, NPH is requiring that all job board postings now include their salary range. We invite all our members to learn more about the importance of salary transparency from these articles by NTEN, Show The Salary, and Nonprofit AF. This is one critical step we are taking with our members to advance racial and gender equity in our field.
