John,

I wanted to take a moment to connect with you since the impeachment managers and I wrapped up the trial on Saturday.

When Speaker Pelosi asked me to serve as one of the impeachment managers, I was honored to help defend our democracy during this critical moment in our nation's history. It was a responsibility I took very seriously, and I was proud to fulfill my oath to protect our Constitution.

I'm proud of the case we presented. And while we didn't get the conviction we ultimately sought, I believe we made our case to the American people -- the evidence was overwhelming.

After peddling conspiracies and misinformation about the election for months, Donald Trump incited extremists to commit a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol while Congress was certifying the election results. The American people watched this attack in real-time, while members of Congress, staff, journalists, and essential workers feared for their lives while the Capitol was under siege. It was the highest of high crimes. It was the greatest betrayal of office. And it was the most brazen attack on our own government by a sitting U.S. president that our nation has ever seen.

Democrats and Republicans -- agreed. The support for conviction was the most bipartisan in impeachment history, with 57 Senators voting to convict.

Many Senate Republicans, including Mitch McConnell, condemned Trump, released statements, and expressed their outrage for the terrorist attack. But when it came time to hold him accountable, they proved that their loyalty to Trump knows no bounds -- even when it stands in direct opposition to facts, our Constitution, and the will of the American people. They sided with Trump over our nation and should be ashamed of themselves.

January 6 was one of the darkest, most terrifying days in American history, and our case was about standing on the side of truth and democracy and preventing another attack from ever happening again.

Impeachment is not to punish but to prevent. So we ask ourselves, what's the next step? John, it's time to keep working to repair the damage that Trump caused our democracy, hold his enablers accountable, and fight to put our country on a path to a brighter future. If you're ready to commit to that work, join me by taking the pledge >> [link removed]

Thank you,

Diana
