This weekend, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced that Congress will move to establish an independent commission to investigate the attack on the Capitol on January 6th. What does this mean for us?

Forming a 9/11-style commission is a huge part of Jamaal's first piece of legislation in Congress, the COUP Act — a bill that was the first of its kind to call for an investigation between the January 6th attack, Capitol Police, and white nationalism (among other things).
It's a groundbreaking piece of legislation that showcases Jamaal's ability to create policies that meet the scale and scope of the crises we face. An in-depth investigation will be critical in not only uncovering why the government was unprepared to deal with this attack, but also in highlighting institutional racism as one of the biggest problems in our country.
Pelosi's announcement is a positive sign that our bold, progressive ideas are much-needed, popular, and capable of winning. And we've only just begun.
