Our campaign to replace Nancy Pelosi as San Francisco's voice in Congress is growing every day! Our latest progress has been truly remarkable.
Earlier this month, we set a goal to recruit 5,000 unique donors before the federal disclosure deadline looming this Monday, September 30. We ended up surpassing that goal last week. We then set another goal of 5,500...which we hit last night.
We’re aiming to recruit another 500 new donors in the next two days to bring us to 6,000, and to reach $200,000 in total fundraising since April, 2019.
Our campaign has already started shifting federal policy. After nearly two-and-a-half years of deferring to our criminal president, Speaker Pelosi finally heeded our demands this week and fulfilled her oath of office by initiating a long overdue impeachment process.
We’re excited that Congress is finally seeking executive accountability. On the other hand, impeachment should have started years ago, and this president’s crimes are too wide-ranging for Congress to limit the scope of its inquiry to a single set of events.
Pursuing impeachment based on Trump’s invitation for foreign interference in U.S. elections could leave Vice President Pence in place. In contrast, both Trump and Pence have been implicated in violations of the Emoluments Clause, which prohibits officials from enriching themselves at taxpayer expense.
We’ll remain hard at work to ensure that Congress does a thorough job, while continuing to build the movement for bold policy solutions—like universal single-payer healthcare and the Green New Deal—to our country’s mounting crises.
