A Renewed Focus on Data from the New Administration

Data is essential for understanding what’s happening during the pandemic and how to best support students. Otherwise, leaders are left to make critical decisions in the dark. With the Biden administration’s recent executive orders and memos, it’s clear that they are prioritizing data.

What President Biden’s COVID-19 Response Executive Order Means for Education Data: President Biden signed an executive order on education as part of his administration’s COVID-19 response plan. DQC President and CEO Jennifer Bell-Ellwanger writes about how the Biden administration is doubling down on the value of data to uncover what’s working, where and for whom—prioritizing data that shines a light on inequities and disparities in services and outcomes. This is a significant development for all of us who know the potential and power of data to inform education policy and practice decisions, serve families, and redress systemic inequities.

New Administration Puts Data at the Forefront: As the new administration announces its priorities and Congress introduces its first pieces legislation this session, we’re noticing an important trend: a commitment to data. DQC Associate Director Jane Clark shares a roundup of all of the announcements we’ve seen so far.

The Next Administration Must Invest in Data to Solve Our Nation's Biggest Challenges: DQC’s memo to the new administration lays out both opportunities for the Biden administration to take bold action to solve some of our country’s largest data challenges and areas where the administration can and should prioritize work on day one to make a difference immediately.
