The decades-old law has disproportionately affected trans women of color, who have long been advocating for its repeal.
We’re absolutely thrilled that trans activists in New York have achieved this essential victory, and so proud that our LGBTQ elected officials were key co-sponsors, pushing other legislators to repeal this transphobic law.
The next step? Ensuring laws like this, which target and harm the LGBTQ community, can’t pass in the first place. Right now, Victory Institute is training the next generation of LGBTQ elected officials and recruiting trans voices to run for office.
