John,

The death penalty is indefensible.

  • Since 1973, 173 people who were wrongly convicted and sentenced to death were exonerated. Over 50% of them were Black.
  • States exhaust millions of taxpayer dollars on the death penalty — when that money could be used to invest in programs that prevent violent crime.
  • There is no evidence the death penalty deters violent crime. Instead, the FBI has found that the states with the death penalty have the highest murder rates in the country.
  • Close to 90% of people on death row could not afford to hire a lawyer when they were tried.

For too long, our tax dollars have been wasted on a brutal, unjust, and ineffective practice. The death penalty is cruel and immoral, and it must be abolished. Sign the petition now — ban the death penalty in all 50 states >>>

Over the years, we’ve seen public opinion steer away from the death penalty, but there’s no room for complacency. Four days before Trump left the White House, his administration executed another 10 prisoners.

This is a matter of life and death. Join us to fight the racial disparities in our criminal justice system. We are not going to stop until the death penalty is gone for good.
