We are going to replace representatives who don’t believe that housing is a human right.

John -- Is housing a privilege?

A lot of people on the political right - and even the center - seem to think so. We’ve seen too many people thrown out on the streets because our leaders have failed to solve issues that the COVID-19 pandemic has only made worse.

How many of us could pay our rent with a $600 check? Not many.

Now, with a historic winter storm devastating most of the country, people are being hit even harder. The climate crisis will only compound the challenges of unhoused communities.

People in the north and midwest aren’t the only ones dealing with this unprecedented weather - last night, an unhoused man froze to death in Houston, Texas while sleeping in his van.

The terrifying choice that unhoused people are facing: either brave the deadly cold or risk exposure to a deadly virus in crowded shelters and warming centers. That’s no choice.

This country is rich enough to end these impossible choices and guarantee housing for all. It starts by electing people who will work tirelessly to ensure dignity, safety and justice.

Brand New Congress candidates have taken the pledge to fight for a 21st Century Bill of Rights, including ensuring that all individuals have the right to clean, safe, modernized housing.

John, we can have representatives who put human rights at the center of their legislative work. We’ve seen it in action through reps like AOC, Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman. But they need more allies in Congress to pass progressive policies.

Please pitch in $5 or whatever you can today and help us replace representatives who don’t believe that a safe place to live is a human right.

In solidarity,

Brand New Congress
