John: Sunday was the third anniversary of when my 14-year-old daughter, Jaime, was murdered at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida.
I won’t ever get to hold Jaime in my arms and tell her I love her again — and I live with that overwhelming grief every day. But I live with overwhelming guilt, too — guilt that I didn't do something before it was my daughter who became a victim of gun violence.
That's why I've dedicated my life to fighting for stronger gun safety laws — and the assault weapons ban that could have saved Jaime. I never want another family to live through the anguish and loss that mine has. Brady is leading that movement in Congress, in the courts, and in communities — including a massive campaign in honor of the Parkland anniversary. But I was so disappointed to hear that they just fell short of their 5,000 petition signature goal.
Joe Biden was one of the first people to reach out to me after Jaime was shot and killed. Under his leadership — grounded in his own deep sense of empathy — we have our best chance to ban assault weapons in over a decade. So we've got to give this must-hit goal just one more try.
I've spoken to the folks at Brady, and they're extending the deadline of their Parkland campaign — but only until 11:59 p.m. tonight. Together, we can save people like Jaime from gun violence, so please don't let Brady fall short a second time. Only 254 more signatures needed: Will you sign the petition calling on Congress to ban deadly assault weapons?

Thank you,
