As I think back over the last year, there’s a photo that has stuck with me. It was taken about one year ago outside of Alexandria’s Congressional office:
Some Congress members have a small desk outside of their office with a guestbook where visitors can write notes. But only Alexandria’s looks like this – covered with thousands of notes of appreciation and gratitude.
Her commitment to our values, to speak truth to power, and to fight for all of us every single day is unmatched.
She didn’t back down last month when she came under attack from the GOP – she doubled down and shared her story of January 6 with us directly and created space for other member of Congress to share their own. She stood up for all survivors of trauma and abuse and reminded us that we can seek help and demand accountability.
She fought for and passed funeral assistance so that families across the country who have lost loved ones to COVID-19 can receive federal assistance to cover the cost of laying a loved one to rest.
We’re so grateful to all of you and ready to continue growing our power and building the world we want to see.
