John,

Today, we’re launching our 21 to Watch in ‘21 campaign – a biweekly series
where we spotlight and introduce you to some of the people and issues to
keep your eye on in the progressive movement -- all making bold moves in
2021.

After you saved Democracy in November 2020, delivered another victory for
Democrats on January 5, 2021, and witnessed an insurrection on the citadel
of our Democracy on January 6th, you know how important it is that we
elect leaders who will stand for our founding Democratic principles:

Government of the people, by the people, for the people

That is why we’re taking the time to highlight 21 of our endorsed
candidates, inspiring activist allies, and dedicated movement partners
that we think you should know. They are on the front-lines fighting the
good fight, fighting for the issues that matter most to our members and
the progressive movement.

And who better to kick off this series with than Louisiana State Senator
and current Congressional candidate for LA-02, Karen Carter Peterson.

It’s fitting that Karen is our first spotlight, because her election is
only 32 days away, and early voting begins in only 18 days.

champion to Congress >>

Our full-length interview with Karen is available online [ [link removed] ]HERE, below
are excerpts from the interview with shorter corresponding clips.

[ [link removed] ]On the pandemic:

“So many people are suffering right now. . . that's part of the reason why
I want to go to Congress, to be able to have some immediate impact, and to
help people rebuild their lives.

[ [link removed] ]On DFA’s "fight everywhere, win everywhere" ethic:

"I know y'all were all in on Georgia – and thank gosh – you helped to save
our Republic, our democracy!"

[ [link removed] ]On being the only pro-choice woman legislator in LA:

“There are only six women [in the Louisiana State Senate] that currently
serve . . . of all six Democrats and Republicans, I'm the only pro-choice
woman. . . I would like to be able to champion the rights of progressive
women – progressive people – on the issues that I've been fighting for
which sometimes are not the dominant advocacy group in the body that I
currently serve in.”

[ [link removed] ]On securing DFA’s endorsement:

“All the organizers were like, ‘What?! DFA is on board now?! Kick it up a
notch – BAM!’ After what [DFA] did in Georgia, I cannot keep saying how
important it is to save our democracy, but we know what's possible when
your members get engaged and that's what’s so exciting.”

She also bares all about a subject faced by many individuals and families.
She’s an overcomer. [ [link removed] ]Watch the video to learn more.

[ [link removed] ]Karen is exactly the kind of progressive champion we need fighting for
us in Congress. Can you chip in to help get her over the finish line?

Change is coming. Change is happening. The 21 to Watch in ‘21 are working
hard to make sure we live in a Democracy that works for everyone,
everywhere.

You heard it here first! Because YOU move this movement, you get access
first to this exclusive content.

Being first is how we roll. Always have. Always will.
