Dear Friends-

Duty. It was not just a word for The House impeachment managers. It was the guiding principle that led them to act with honor and distinction. Once again, for most Republicans in Congress it was something not to act upon but to pass off to others. The Heroes who defended democracy showed us what it meant to faithfully fulfill an obligation at great risk to themselves. Mitch McConnell even acknowledged how successful Democratic House managers were in doing so, yet he failed to act with courage.  Some Republicans are rapidly fleeing the party they once called home because they no longer recognize it. As DNC spokesman, Daniel Wessel, told The Hill,  “If former Republicans are looking for a party with a broad and diverse membership — a party that is working to unify the country and build back better — they need look no further than the Democratic Party.”

I know the outcome of the trial has been difficult to process. I have needed some time to process the impact of the acquittal as well. As hard as it may be, we must remain determined to walk in the path laid by these giants. People need us to help hold up the morale and remain rooted in the pursuit of deep change.

Yesterday was President’s Day and what a difference a year makes! President Biden was focused on providing help for our country. He continues to execute on his American Rescue Plan, which will deliver a radical difference to communities everywhere—direct relief to working families and puts us on the road to beating the virus. Support for state and local communities is an essential part of this plan, as is getting help to those places that are hurting because of budget shortfalls created by the pandemic.

President Biden’s coronavirus relief agenda has strong bipartisan support and a new CBS News/YouGov poll found an overwhelming majority of Americans support Congress passing a new economic relief package:

  • 83% support a new stimulus bill to help those impacted by the pandemic

  • 64% approve of President Biden’s handling of the coronavirus crisis

  • 61% approve the overall job Biden is doing as president

In fact, more than 400 mayors wrote a letter to congressional leaders urging them to take immediate action in passing the American Rescue Plan to give their communities the assistance they desperately need, including many Republican mayors.

I know that many of you have been gathering support for President Biden’s plan and doing everything from holding Days of Action to helping with letter writing campaigns to Congress, thank you! Please keep it up and know that you are making a difference.
