** Casa Alitas Needs Volunteers
------------------------------------------------------------
Casa Alitas, a shelter in Tucson operated by Catholic Charities, is preparing to gear up for what could be dozens of new guests per day.

Based on a Trump policy (Migrant Protection Protocol) many asylum-seekers have been forced to wait in Nogales, Sonora for their asylum hearing. They and other asylum-seekers have started to arrive into the US based on positive changes the Biden administration is already making.

We need all hands on deck to ensure a smooth transition for them into the US. There are many jobs to do - many from home, many that don't require Spanish.

Please see the request for Casa Alitas volunteers, below.

WE NEED YOU
We have already started to see a steady upflow of guests with groups of 12-15 arriving every day. We are expecting these numbers to increase very soon, and so are in need of having all hands on deck! There are both in-person, onsite opportunities and at-home opportunities to help. Please see below. Contact Sarah at [email protected] if interested in meeting any of these needs!
NEEDED
Alitas needs individuals who speak Spanish and can provide intakes from home. Requires an additional training.

Alitas needs individuals who speak intermediate Spanish to help with contacting sponsors to make travel arrangements, updating the spreadsheet and arranging drivers. This could be in-house or from home.

Willing to come onsite? We need people - no Spanish required - to help with clothing, serving food, setting up rooms, and making up travel bags. No direct guest contact necessary.

Do you have a mental health background? Social work, psychology, therapist, or chaplain? We'd love to have you be a part of our Trauma Support Team. This team will provide mental health and psychosocial support to guests, volunteers and staff, onsite or virtually. Spanish is a plus but not required - meetings and trainings for this team will start soon.

Are you available to drive? We need DRIVERS who can take people to the airport or bus station for their journey. We have a van to assist but when numbers increase will need people to bring their own vehicles as well.

If you have not volunteered with us in over a year, and/or if you have never attended a volunteer orientation, you will need to attend an orientation. You can signup for an orientation here: [link removed]
