Learning Session Highlight: COVID Aftershocks—Funding Challenges

The onset of COVID-19 challenged the international humanitarian system and its ability to adapt to rapidly changing global circumstances. NGOs on the frontline of humanitarian crises required flexibility from donors to continue existing humanitarian programming and rapid injection of funds to scale up their response to the virus's spread. Months after the pandemic was declared, however, very little funding had reached frontline actors, and many NGOs were left struggling. This session will explore lessons learned from the COVID-19 response and what they mean for the way forward for the international humanitarian system and NGO efforts to improve it.

Speakers:

  • Greg Ramm, Vice President of Humanitarian Response, Save the Children U.S.
  • Alice Armanni Sequi, Chief, Pooled Fund Management Branch, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
  • Jeremy Rempel, Head of Humanitarian Financing and Co-Chair of IASC Result Group 5 on “Humanitarian Financing,” International Council of Voluntary Agencies

Moderated by:

  • Patricia McIlreavy, CEO, Center for Disaster Philanthropy

Forum 2.1 provides a powerful platform on which we can forge common solutions to pressing global challenges. We hope you'll join us.
