Sign the Petition to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer

Dear John,

At President Biden's inauguration a few weeks ago, he emphasized the need for American unity and promised that he and his party would be intent on building bridges during his four-year term. In reality, it appears that he and his fellow Democratic Party leaders are more intent on building walls.

As of last week, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer are poised for the construction of a permanent ten-foot high fence around the U.S. Capitol building and its grounds, all in the name of safety and security.

After the horrible attack on the Capitol on January 6, increased security measures and protections were to be expected. Leading up to the presidential inauguration, security in D.C. reached an all-time high. Over 20,000 National Guard troops were brought in, and a three-mile barbed-wire fence was put up around the Capitol -- as well as the congressional office buildings, the Supreme Court, and the Library of Congress -- making Capitol Hill feel more like a militarized zone in a third-world country than the world's beacon of freedom and democracy.

Some want to make these temporary security measures permanent. Instead of talking about removing the fence and allowing the National Guard troops to return to their families as soon as possible, acting Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman and others have suggested the construction of a permanent ten-foot fence to surround the Capitol building.

Despite rare united bipartisan opposition to such a project, Pelosi and Schumer have said that they will "defer to the experts" regarding whether or not a wall around the Capitol should be constructed. We the people must raise our voices in opposition so that this does not happen.

This call for increased security around the Capitol complex comes as other establishments in D.C. are removing the boards from their windows they were forced to put up after riots and looting involving Antifa and BLM last summer. So why are private entities decreasing security while the Capitol increases? Because it is not about a physical threat; rather it is about political theater.

On a recent episode of Washington Watch, I spoke with Missouri Senator Roy Blunt (R), ranking member of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, about the recent wall proposition.

As Senator Blunt stated, "optics matter," and the Capitol building acts as the "Citadel of Democracy." By all means, we must keep the Capitol and our representatives safe. But having them permanently fenced off and separated from the people they were elected to represent is unacceptable.

The hypocrisy displayed by Pelosi and other Democrats is astounding. When President Trump temporarily put up a fence around the White House last summer due to the violent and destructive riots -- which Democrats did nothing to stop or quell -- Rep. Pelosi and Sen. Schumer sent a letter to Trump saying this: "Your conversion of this unique public [place] in the heart of our nation's capital to what looks like a militarized zone denies citizens access...and sends the worst possible message to the American public and people around the world."

Now, as Pelosi and Schumer consider making the razor wire fence around the building where they work permanent, they should listen to their own advice to President Trump and "tear down these walls."

FRC is joining the fight to protect the Capitol building. To make our voices heard, we have created a petition to send to Speaker Pelosi, Sen. Schumer, and all those considering turning our Capitol building into a fortress. To show how widespread opposition to the Capitol Wall is, our goal is to get 20,000 signatures.

On a recent episode of Pray Vote Stand, Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) stated that Pelosi wants to constantly remind Americans of what happened on January 6 and distract them from the unbiblical policies that President Biden and Democrats in Congress are currently trying to pass.

The hypocrisy, divisiveness, and subversiveness shown by the Left is exactly why the work of FRC is so important. Despite their best efforts, we will not be distracted by their use of political tactics. Will you help us stand against their schemes?
