We founded Accountable Tech with the goal of exposing big tech’s role in undermining our information ecosystem, heightening political divisions, and misusing users’ private information. Recently, we conducted a poll to get a better understanding of how average citizens feel about these issues.
The results revealed what we’ve long suspected: The misdeeds of big tech have led to a complete erosion of the public’s trust.
The laissez-faire approach toward technology and social media companies has proved disastrous. Add your name to our petition today to demand that tech companies like Twitter and Facebook be held accountable.

Some of our key findings reveal:
- 84% believe social media has played a role in radicalizing people -- and 76% hold social media platforms at least somewhat responsible for the siege of the Capitol
- 74% believe the spread of misinformation on social media is an extremely or very serious problem
- 71% believe the federal government should implement stronger regulations on social media companies -- including 76% of Democrats and 69% of Republicans
Notably, Americans do not trust leaders in big tech to resolve these issues -- Mark Zuckerberg’s approval is 26 points underwater, a 53 point drop from just four years ago.
In the past few months, the issues creating this distrust have only grown more pressing. Online disinformation and hate remain rampant, and social media was openly used to plan a violent insurrection at our nation’s seat of government.
It's clear that our work at Accountable Tech is just beginning. Will you sign our petition today to help us signal to big tech companies like Facebook that the movement demanding their accountability is growing?
