** Dear John,
------------------------------------------------------------

Last Chance for Animals (LCA) is encouraging Supporters who live in Los Angeles to contact their local Council Member ([link removed]) in support of a Municipal Rodeo Ban in the City of L.A.

L.A. City Council
File # 20-1575 ([link removed]) , titled, "Inhumane Implements / Electric Prods or Shocking Devices / Flank or Bucking Straps / Wire Tiedowns / Sharpened or Fixed Spurs or Rowels / Prohibition / Rodeo Events" contains a Motion ([link removed]) brought forward by Councilmember Bob Blumenfield (District 3) and seconded by Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell (District 13) in December 2020 to ban rodeos and rodeo-type events in L.A. The Motion still needs to be voted on by city council, which is why it is important to take action NOW.
HOW YOU CAN HELP ([link removed])
1. Los Angeles Residents: call, write, or email your elected Council Member ([link removed]) and voice support for a Municipal rodeo ban in the City of Los Angeles. Click here ([link removed]) for a sample letter.

2. Leave a public comment voicing your support for a Municipal rodeo ban on the LA City Clerk Connect ([link removed]) website.

3. Sign LCA's change.org petition ([link removed]) supporting a rodeo ban in Los Angeles.

4. Share this email with family and friends who live in Los Angeles.
In February 2020, LCA and a coalition of animal rights organizations held a demonstration at the Staples Center in L.A to protest a rodeo held by the Professional Bull Riders. In order force animals in rodeos to perform, animals are subjected to horrendous abuse, including shocking their bodies with electric prods; poking their bodies with sharp sticks; and forcing cows and horses to wear "flank straps", straps secured so tightly around the animals' abdomen it causes pain and forces them to buck.

When they are no longer able to perform in rodeos, animals are sent to the slaughterhouse. In a 1979 interview with HSUS, the late Dr. C.G. Haber, a veterinarian who worked in federal slaughterhouses for 30 years, noted by the time rodeo animals reached the slaughterhouse, they suffered injuries including extensive bruising, broken ribs and punctured lungs.

LCA strongly encourages Los Angeles supporters to speak up in support a Municipal rodeo ban. If enacted, L.A. would join a growing number of other U.S. cities that have taken a stand against animal abuse and banned rodeos.
Together, We Can Make a Difference!
