Dear John,

Here is an update on what Bob Good has been doing to represent you in the past few weeks. We have been overwhelmed with encouraging letters as he works to keep the interests of the American people first, open our schools safely, and protect your businesses. Please keep sending us your thoughts.

Congressman Bob Good took an active role in fighting back against the liberal wishlist COVID bill and offered THREE amendments in the 13-hour Education & Labor Committee markup on Tuesday. One amendment called for transparency in any negotiations with teachers unions as a condition for receiving COVID funds. The second would have prohibited higher education funding in the bill from going to non-citizens. The third would have taken money the Democrats earmarked for arts and humanities funding and put it toward rural broadband. All three failed on a party-line vote. The Democrats also rejected Hyde protections against taxpayer funding of abortion and rejected a prohibition of higher education from funding going to schools in partnerships with China. Republicans also attempted to strip the Democrats' job-killing $15 minimum wage provision from the bill.

Congressman Good led a letter, signed by the Republicans in the Virginia Congressional delegation, asking Governor Northam to lift anti-business lockdown restrictions and provide regulatory certainty for 2021.

Congressman Good sponsored five bills in five weeks. In spite of unprecedented events in his first days in Congress, Congressman Good has hit the ground running since taking office. He introduced two bills this week bringing his total to five pieces of legislation.

The Preserving Safety Net Integrity Act is Congressman Good's second bill aimed at addressing illegal immigration in the United States. Specifically, this bill would prevent the Biden Administration from rescinding the Trump Administration's public charge rule. The final Trump Administration rule clarified an individual who is likely to become a public charge is ineligible for admission or adjustment of immigration status. The final rule also requires aliens in the United States who have a nonimmigrant visa and seek to extend their stay or to change their status demonstrate that they have not received public benefits for more than 12 months, in total, within any 36-month period. This rule did not apply to refugees or those in the U.S. who were designated as "asylees" nor to victims of trafficking.

The No Taxpayer Funding for the Chinese Communist Party Act would require the Attorney General to compile a report for Congress on the extent to which the Chinese Communist Party has benefitted from taxpayer funded research. A 2019 Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee report found that, “…American taxpayer funded research has contributed to China’s global rise over the last 20 years.” Thousands of Chinese nationals are conducting research in our national energy labs, and universities across the country have created research partnerships with the CCP.

Since coming to Congress just a little more than a month ago, Congressman Good has been named to the Budget Committee and the Education & Labor Committee, and has voted and spoken publicly on the House floor or via other mediums on the following:
  • Supporting the Republican objections to the electoral votes in AZ, GA, MI, NV, PA and WI
  • Opposing the impeachment charges against President Trump
  • Supporting the removal of Liz Cheney (R-WY) as conference chair
  • Opposing the removal of Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) from her committee assignments
  • Opposing every bill or resolution presented by the Democrat majority
