John,
We reached out a few days ago to ask supporters like you to share stories about the animals you love. We received so many heartwarming tales, and I wanted to share one from Haley.
Haley had been following a rescue group on social media when she saw a post about a senior Corgi mix named Hero, who needed a home and, it turns out, a hero of his own.
Haley doesn’t know what Hero went through in his early life — but it’s clear this dog had a rough start. Before he found his way into Haley’s heart, he had been adopted and returned to the shelter multiple times, and whatever experiences he had as a pup stayed with him. At age 9, he still shows anxiety and is possessive of his toys and food, qualities that are common in dogs who are born and raised in puppy mills. But Haley saw all of Hero’s charming qualities shine through (like his love of naps and walks) and knew he was the one for her family.

Today, settled into his forever home with Haley and her husband, Hero the Corgi is enjoying his new life. He loves treat puzzles and has made friends with a Great Dane at the local dog park.
Haley and Hero’s story is an important reminder of why the work we do is critical. For every animal like Hero who finds his happy ending, there are countless others who are still waiting for love, safety, and freedom from suffering.
This Valentine’s Day, we can give more animals just that — by working for justice and the legal protections animals need and deserve. Please consider a special donation today in honor of an animal you love, to put an end to animal cruelty and exploitation, and give another animal a second chance. |
For the animals,
